Kozin was involved in airsoft, organised a search-and-rescue team in Sakhalin, and ran a popular VKontakte (Russian social media) public page "Emergency Sakhalin Russian Media". The team named "Regional Public Organisation "Search and Rescue Team "Emergency Sakhalin"" was engaged in finding missing persons, conducted paintball games and trainings, and cooperated with the All-Russian People's Front. In April 2020, Kozin was detained and taken into custody on charges of organising the activities of a terrorist community and possession of weapons and explosives. Kozin claimed that during the search law enforcers planted a tube with wires on him, handling it carelessly, while an explosives expert saying it was safe. Kozin's relatives do not believe that he could have created a terrorist community, and suggest that the reason for the persecution was his 'nationalist' public page.
On June 8, 2022, Kozin was sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment in a high-security penal colony.
