A neurologist by speciality, she had previously been an activist with the Independent Association of Doctors. In November 2023, her home was searched. She was charged with participation in the activities of a non-profit organisation, the activities of which involve violence or other harmful actions against individuals. On that day, investigative actions took place in several regions at the homes of activists whom the investigation linked to the All-People's Union for the Revival of Russia (AURR).

On 28 August 2024, Lushavina was searched in the case of public justification of terrorism. A video was published on the "#Razdoblacheno" telegram channel, in which Lushavina said that she had been beaten up. She was taken in for interrogation, during which she became ill. An ambulance arrived and took her to hospital, but the law enforcers demanded from the head of the hospital that he forbid her to be hospitalised.

The next day Lushavina was taken into custody.
