On October, 20, 2021, Marunov's home was searched, he was detained and interrogated. On October 22, the court decided to place him under house arrest on charges of organising activities of an extremist organisation in connection with his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Representatives of this community are prosecuted under extremist articles solely for religious activities: meetings, joint worship services, attracting new supporters.
On July, 12, 2023, he was sentenced to six and a half years in a general regime colony.
