Dilyaver Gafarov was detained on 30 October 2018 immediately after a search at his home in Crimea.
Prior to that, according to the documents and his own testimony, in 2016 Gafarov left the territory of Crimea for Ukraine (according to the investigation, to participate in an illegal armed formation, according to the version of the accused - to work as a hairdresser in Kyiv), and in February 2018 he decided to return home to Crimea together with his wife.
The investigation accused Gafarov of involvement in the activities of the "Crimean Tatar volunteer battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan", which Russia considers an illegal armed formation. At the time of the prosecution, the battalion had apparently not been functioning for a long time.
The Crimean Tatar was taken into custody. On 28 August 2019, Gafarov was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
