47 yr old (born in 09.11.1977)
Eduard Nizamov, considered by the investigation to be the head of the Russian branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir, was detained in Kazan on 11 October, 2018. On 12 October, the Vakhitovsky District Court of Kazan arrested Nizamov until 12 November 2018; along with Ildar Akhmetzianov, 41, and Rais Gimadeev, 48, who, according to the investigation, are the leaders of the regional cell of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Tatarstan. All of them are charged under Article 205.5, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organizing the activities of an organisation, which, under Russian law, is recognised as a terrorist organisation; up to life imprisonment).
On 10 February, 2020, Nizamov was sentenced to 23 years in a strict-regime colony.
After his arrest, he complained about being tortured by the staff at the pretrial detention center and provocations from his cellmates. After that Nizamov was transferred to another cell.
In September 2019, it became known that Nizamov was also charged with financing terrorist activities and preparation for violent seizure of power.
Nizamov was transferred to pretrial detention center No. 1 in the Sverdlovsk region, where he was kept in harsh conditions, without proper ventilation and necessary food items.
In 2020, Nizamov was transferred to a colony in the Samara region. From August 1 to August 30, 2022, he was kept in the punishment cell because of his demand to hand him over his parcel with clothes and a wristwatch, which the administration had been refusing to release since 2020. After that, he was placed in the punishment cell several more times. In December, he was constantly transferred from cell to cell. On 13 December, Nizamov was sent to the punishment cell for seven days for allegedly not keeping his hands behind his back. At the end of the month, it was reported that Nizamov was transferred to a special-regime colony.
It is reported that Nizamov has already been tried under Article 282.2, Part 2 (participation in the activities of an extremist organisation): In 2005, he received a two-year conditional sentence.
