On 13 January, Insaf accompanied me and my daughter to the plane, while he and his son stayed behind, as he had a leave until the end of January. On 15, he and his brother went to Baymak and saw a crowd of people near the Baymak court. They stood, listened and went home, but as the situation was extraordinary and he learned that on 17 January there would be a final announcement of the verdict, for the sake of curiosity he decided to go and hear how the case would end.

On 6 February 2024 he was detained in Apatity (Murmansk region). When Insaf found out that he was wanted, he called the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, informed them that he was in Apatity, and agreed that he would come to the police station by 10.00 a.m. on 7 February, as he had to leave for a flight at 3 p.m. on 6 February, and he could not let his employer down.

On 9 February, a local court sent him to custody on charges of participating in mass riots in connection with a public gathering in Baymak (Bashkortostan) on 17 January in support of activist Fail Alsynov, who was sentenced to four years in prison. Islamov was later transferred to Ufa.
