A resident of Birobidzhan, Postnikov was charged on February 12, 2020, with participation in an extremist organization due to his involvement in the Jehovah's Witnesses community. Members of this religious group have been prosecuted under extremism laws solely for practicing their faith—holding meetings, conducting worship services, and seeking new followers.
On April 25, 2022, Postnikov received a suspended sentence of five and a half years. However, on October 11, the appeals court overturned the sentence and ordered a retrial. On August 23, 2023, the same suspended sentence was reissued.
On April 3, 2025, a new criminal case was opened against him related to his continued involvement with the community. His home was searched, and he was taken into custody.
