An architect and artist, an activist of the Peaceful Resistance movement. In October 2021, a case was brought against Smirnova for justification of terrorism in connection with an action in support of Crimean Tatars. Later, it became known that the case was terminated, with the termination order dated October 2021, but only on 6 April 2022, all the equipment seized during the search was returned to her.

On 5 May 2022, Smirnova was detained after a search in the case of dissemination of knowingly false information about the Russian Armed Forces. The next day, the court decided to take Smirnova into custody, and the trial was held in closed session and ended at night.
On 10 October, the court returned the case to the prosecutor's office, but then the case was sent back to court. In February 2023, Smirnova's defence counsel, Dinar Idrisov, was suspended from participation in the trial on the pretext that two witnesses in the case had powers of attorney for him.

On 30 August 2023, Smirnova was sentenced to six years in a general regime colony.

In June 2024, it became known that Smirnova was registered in the colony as "prone to extremism".
