On the morning of 11 April 2023, Ivanov, a RusNews journalist, was subjected to a search during which law enforcement officers forcibly entered his premises, causing damage to the door and part of the wall. It later emerged that three criminal cases were filed against Ivanov under the provision concerning dissemination of "fakes" about the Russian army with the intent of inciting political hatred (paragraph e of Article 207.3 Part 2 of the Criminal Code), based on three posts on his Telegram channel "Chestnoye Korolyovskoye!". The cases were consolidated the same day, and Ivanov was formally charged. The following day, the court ordered his detention. On April 20, Ivanov was included in the register of those who "study, profess, or disseminate extremist ideology", a decision of which he was not notified—he was neither summoned to the commission meeting nor informed about the decision. He learned of this fact only at the end of July. In September, Ivanov's lawyer reported that during a search of his client's cell, materials related to Ivanov's criminal case were confiscated, hindering his ability to prepare for trial. On 6 March 2024, Ivanov was sentenced to seven years in a medium-security prison.
