He is the administrator of the Telegram channel True Crime, writing under the pseudonym Denis Evsyukov. By the time the “fakes” case was initiated, charges with public justification of terrorism had already been brought against him. As part of that case, he was allegedly detained on 14 December 2022.
Initially it was reported that Ushakov was charged under Part 1, Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code, but later he was reported to have been charged with spreading deliberately false information about the Armed Forces motivated by political hatred (Paragraph E Part 2, Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). Ushakov is also charged with inciting hatred (Paragraph A, Part 2, Article 282 of the Criminal Code) and rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4, Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code).
At one of the court hearings Ushakov said that he had been tortured with electric shocks during his detention.
On 29 June 2023, he was sentenced to eight years in a general regime penal colony. On 27 October, the court of appeal reduced the sentence by two months.
On 21 March 2024, Ushakov was transferred from Moscow’s Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 1 at Matrosskaya Tishina to an unknown location.
