Resident of Cherepovets. Torochkov and his wife Polina Roots have five children, they were deprived of parental rights at the request of Roots' mother, who had registered custody of the four older children. The youngest girl, a breast girl, was placed in foster care. The couple blogged "How and why children are taken away in Russia." They publicly renounced Russian citizenship and said they would use USSR documents. In September 2022, Torochkov and Roots were detained and taken into custody in a case of public justification of terrorism. It later became known that they were also charged with manufacture and possession of explosives. On 8 June 2023, Torochkov was sentenced to 13 years in a strict regime colony and a fine of 350,000 rubles.
